Detroit Chapter - Annual Holiday Luncheon

Women in Transition Programs of Women Entrepreneurs of America, Inc. are unique programs that provide a sanctuary for women overcoming adversity and transitioning through life’s many stages.
One out of every 4 women will experience domestic violence in their adult lives. The National Coalition for the Homeless reported in July, 2009 that 63% of homeless women have experienced domestic violence.
Bethlehem House is committed to the spiritual and emotional well-being of women in transition. They offer a clean, safe, environment in a privately owned and operated home. Services include, single and shared bedrooms, money management, life skills training, counseling/life coaching, legal referrals, medical referrals, laundry facilities and individual meal preparation.
Detroit Chapter of WEA, Inc. supports the Bethlehem House with donations from our supporters of the Denim & Diamonds Luncheon. The Bethlehem House, located at 5063 Van Dyke in Detroit, MI is a community based organization that provides a “Home” program for 3 to 6 months designed to restore a woman’s dignity and a chance to regain her focus.
Our guest speaker, Ms. Kalyn Risker, Founder and Director of SAFE (Sisters Acquiring Financial Empowerment) is an over comer and advocate for victims of domestic violence. She rebuilt her life after escaping from domestic violence with her only daughter in 1988. Since that time, she has been a warrior championing the cause of awareness of Domestic Violence. Her organization has helped dozens of women in the process.
Since May of 2006, the non-profit organization has provided services to survivors of domestic violence in the Southeastern Michigan community. According to the website, SAFE has expanded its impact to the community by enlisting volunteers who are experts in the area of the training delivered.
SAFE is a part of several anti-violence initiatives within Southeastern Michigan including, Wayne County Council Against Family Violence and Transformation Detroit. You can find out more information about SAFE at www.newsafestart.org.
You can support the Detroit Chapter of Women Entrepreneurs of America, Inc., by purchasing raffle tickets for a chance to win 1 of 3 holiday gift baskets for that special lady – mother, sister, wife or family or friend in your life. Baskets feature Avon, Mary Kay and jewelry by Precious Jewelz.
Raffle Tickets are $5.00 each. Admission to Luncheon is free, but Attendees are responsible for the purchase of their lunch. Selections can be made from the Bistro restaurant menu.
